Literary Present – workshop for writers
”Poetry is apparently luxury. It is a despair in the innermost.” Kolozsvár is the city of poets. It is not easy for one who gets here as a student and starts writing poems because there is stony competition. If one survives his or her first appearance at the Bretter Circle, writes some nice poems, but gains too much confidence and stops working, a younger poet comes at once and quickly overtakes and defeats him or her.
Round-table discussions from the museum to the internet.
Host: Zsolt Karácsonyi
Musical events / parties
Every Thursday evening
Tokos Band was founded in 2011 in Cluj by five enthusiastic musicians who were students at that time. ”Our band often travelled to the surrounding villages where we learnt the ins and outs of playing folk music.” – says Bálint Szép, the violinist of the band. Most of the time they went to Válaszút and the villages of Kalotaszeg. Their repertoire has been compiled from music learned there. This, as Bálint Szép has put it, stops a gap, because this music is not known everywhere in the Carpathian basin.
The main goal of Tokos Band is to promote the folk music of each member’s birthplace with more and more people. As Cluj is their home, music characteristic to this region is the dearest for them. They would love to pass through the semi-finals of a folk music competition aired on TV, which, they believe, would earn them a huge success, regardless the final ranking.
